Good clip tightness, decent leather and color.
I purchased these as I have a leather journal cover with no pen/pencil loops. These are a typical tan dyed color but the leather and finish are consistent the clip metal has an aged look and have a tight enough clip to firmly clip on top grain or thicker leather, but will pull off with a firm tug. Another reviewer indicated theirs were not leather, but mine are definitely leather probably top grain (finished leather split so not as thick). I actually use two clips on the journal for firmer pencil retention and to prevent the pencil from catching and pulling the clip off.

I bought these to add to my leather vintage/retro journal that I purchased as well!My journal is brown rustic leather (medieval looking), these match well. As if it came together!It holds my pens attached to the journal! It comes in handy these holders.Happy with my purchase! Thank you.
