May be the only positive, encouraging message you encounter all day
Joel Osteen tells the story (not recorded in this book) of a man who had a one-hour commute each way to work. He would listen to a political talk show on the radio during his commute. Callers would debate with each other, get angry, and be rude to each other.By the time the man got to work, he would be so upset, no one would want to talk with him. Then, one day, he was flipping through the channels on his SiriusXM radio. He came across Joel Osteen on the radio. And then found he could not turn him off. After a year, the man reported, he was a changed man. People at work now so loved to be around him, they would ask him, "So what happened to you?"Similarly, spending a few moments each morning with this inspirational book may also change the course of each of your days.First, the book has a fabulous aesthetic feel. It's a hardcover book that is very ... soft.Next, to get the motivational effect of this book may take you only 30 seconds to a minute each morning. So even though you will look forward to reading each positive message, it will not take much time out of your day to establish a highly beneficial habit. Each page is beautifully laid out and contains a short bible passage and a real-world application. And given the cynical nature of many of the people you encounter during the day (who, like the callers into that talk show, may instead simply classify themselves as being "realistic"), it may be the only positive, uplifting moment you have each day.

Great start for the day!
I love listening to his sermons each time. I have always found him to preach values that are in perfect balance with religion and science. Lately, I have been reading many books about increasing your productivity and living a more positive life. From all that I read and practiced so far, reading good stuff in the morning is one of the best ways to start your day. This book is one such great resource . The daily devotions presented in this book are short - you wont need more than 15 minutes to read and reflect over it. I love how it sets my mood on the right track every morning . This book mostly reminds us about our worth as an individual (which we sometimes forget) and helps to strengthen our faith and courage to face all the problems in life . I somehow find that the ideas in the daily devotions are repetitive . May be the author is trying to reinforce them -which is good though. But I personally like his daily emails more (named : Today's Word with Joel & Victoria) . Nevertheless , this book is also one on my daily-must-read list . Thank you very much Joel!

Ostensibly Osteen
Joel Osteen will certainly go into the annals of Christian teaching and ministry history as a "great". I'll not make comparisons for there are other greats in the history of ministers and teachers. The teaching and ministry Osteen provides is the "GOOD NEWS" and "GRACE" that is so badly needed in the din of religion in America and the world. While he lightly peppers some Law in his balance of Gospel and Grace, it's done so realizing that as people of faith, sojourners of light and grace we already are compelled and anguished with too much condemnation and guilt to focus on "shoulding".I particularly appreciate the lightening of our load and encouraging us on our daily journey in life. I see teaching and ministry as one akin to "goal setting"...."if you set your sights on the moon and miss it, at least you'll be among the stars". No doubt, better educated than myself will scoff at my elementary approach, but this suits my style and feeds my spirit and soul. I find the daily devotions Joel and Victoria share on email a great contribution to my daily life. This devotion book is a very nice complement as well when I have my morning coffee and breakfast.I recommend this devotion book highly.

a "Barnabas" - brother of encouragement
Life is hard. When the tough times are seemingly never ending, discouragement is there. Faith in God's goodness and care wanes. In this disjointed society where individuals are often alone and without the encouragement of a true Christian friend, Joel's words are like water to weary souls. Yes, there is a lot of repetition in his book as some one critiqued. But there is also a lot of repetition in the Bible. Humans don't learn by having been told once. The issue is not intellectual. Our spiritual problems often come because we give up, we give in. We NEED to be ENCOURAGED (lovingly reminded again and again ... as the Bible itself does) of the Truths that are tested during prolonged testing -- that God loves us - despite..., that we ARE overcomers in Christ, despite... Faith is a work in progress. I for one and very thankful for Joel's spiritual coaching to not give up in the race of life and faith in a good God in a sometimes bad world and to guard my thoughts, as the Bible itself teaches (and too little is preached on) because as my thoughts go so will my life (Proverbs) I've bought about 10 copies of this book to encourage and inspire others to not allows bitterness, faithlessness to set in and to grow their faith "muscles" - to dare trust God's goodness, despite whatever the obstacles/problems/hurts. I thank the Lord for Joel's ministry of encouragement. He, like all preachers and all humans, does not have all the Truth as 1 Corinthians 13 states no human does. But the bottom line of Christianity is a life of passionate love for God and fellow man -- to this end, I do believe that Joel succeeds in helping people choose to BE better instead of staying bitter - and Joel clearly communicates this goal is not one anyone can achieve on their own -- it's called a life of faith, hope, and love with full acknowledgment that only with Christ's help can anyone persevere in it joyfully and humbly.
