Q: Is this product remote-dependent? Meaning can I operate it without the remote?

The product has an On/Off switch on the front of the unit, close to where the power cord comes in. It will only operate with the remote, which can be placed in its cradle on the unit or removed. The remote has a nice lanyard to assist in keeping close at hand.

Q: Why can't you store this upright?

Because there is no structure to attach to the wall, it could collapse.

Q: Where can I purchase additional lubricating oil?

I have no clue, but mine came with a little bottle. I’m sure you can get some on Amazon
